Our Dental Crown Looks Just Like a Tooth!

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that a dentist places over a tooth to restore its shape, size, strength and appearance. Once cemented into place, a crown completely encases the entire visible portion of a tooth above, and slightly below, the gum line. A tooth crown is usually recommended when a dental issue cannot be restored with a filling or veneer. Crowns may be made from a variety of durable materials but are most often created from porcelain-fused-to-metal or ceramic. Crowns are a long-lasting, cost-efficient solution to restore broken, chipped, severely decayed or root canal-treated teeth.

A dental crown can be placed for several reasons:

  • To protect a weak tooth from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth
  • To restore an already broken tooth or one that has been severely worn down
  • To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when little of the tooth remains
  • To hold a dental bridge in place
  • To cover misshaped or severely discolored teeth
  • To cover a dental implant

Getting a crown takes two office visits

On the first visit, we’ll examine the tooth, prepare it and cover it with a temporary crown. Preparing the affected tooth involves trimming it down into an abutment, taking a mold of your teeth and choosing the best color for your permanent crown. The mold and color selection will be sent to a lab for creation of the permanent crown.

The second visit is to place the permanent crown. The temporary crown will be removed and the new crown will be cemented into place.

Dental Crowns Have Many Benefits

Dental crowns are very strong and can withstand normal pressure from biting and chewing.

They are cost efficient when compared to other cosmetic dental procedures.

Dental crowns can improve your life. They look and feel like your regular teeth, allowing you to chew food and smile with confidence.

With a dental crown, you'll finally be able to:

  • Bite and chew comfortably
  • Eat favorite foods once again
  • Speak and smile with confidence
  • Enjoy a natural, lifelike appearance
  • Maintain positioning of surrounding teeth
  • Restore oral health
