Michigan native Dr. Karen Smereck attended Michigan State University and the University of Michigan, from which she holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygienic. Passionate about dentistry, Dr. Karen continued her studies at the University of Detroit, where she was in the last class to graduate from U-D’s School of Dentistry while it was still located on Jefferson Avenue. Dr. Karen’s dream of becoming a dentist began in high school – but not with a science class. Instead, she developed an interest in the field when she picked up dental tools while making jewelry. And just as a necklace or ring can be, in the hands of an expert, something extraordinarily beautiful, Dr. Karen says that “a great smile is a work of art.”
Dr. Karen especially appreciates her time at Southfield Family Dental Center because it gives her the opportunity to practice “in a state-of-the-art facility with both general and specialty dentistry.”
When not working, Dr. Karen loves all kinds of music and going to concerts, staying fit and cooking (salmon is a favorite).
